Karate begins and ends with courtesy
The Richmond Hill Karate philosophy is to provide the best possible karate training, recognizing that each individual has different physical abilities. To help dedicated students progress in the knowledge and skills of karate, thus maximizing their physical and mental potential. Chito-Ryu traditional karate focuses on good manners, self discipline, physical fitness and self defense, remembering the aim of karate is the perfection of the character of its participants. Instruction at Richmond Hill Karate is performed by high level experienced Black Belt instructors, registered with the National Karate Association of Canada.
Chito-Ryu is one of the oldest styles of karate in Canada, and offers participants excellent physical conditioning and strong mental discipline, as well as a proven method of self-defense. This karate style was developed in Okinawa, through Japan, to be practiced by all ages, and as such no special athletic abilities or flexibility are required.
Chito-Ryu Karate, as a martial art, is designed for people of both sexes and of all walks of life. With its well designed calisthenics to protect the body from injury and painstaking attention given to the mastery of technique, Chito-Ryu Karate develops healthy bodies and sharply focused minds. These qualities are important at all stages of life. Children especially enjoy karate’s brisk physical activity, and parents appreciate the discipline it instills in them.
Complementing the traditional karate taught at our dojo are classes focused on tournament application. Tournaments generally consist of sparing matches (kumite), katas and occasionally weapon demonstrations. The students are exposed to these topics in class, but for those who wish to take a more serious approach there is our successful competition class. Our hard working competition team is focused on improving their athletic abilities for various provincial and national competitions.

Little Ninja Karate
Karate begins and ends with courtesy
The little ninja program is designed specifically for young children under 7 years. They will learn basic blocks, kicks, punches, breakfalls and even full katas (combination of movements). The goal of the class is to provide a fun environment for the children to work on their coordination, balance, concentration and memory.
Richmond Hill Karate’s little ninja program is a fun way for young children to meet and interact with others, and trust us parents have as much fun watching the classes as the kids have participating in them.
Self Defense
Joining karate is an excellent way to learn self defense, with every class focusing on awareness, techniques and applications that can be directly applied to protecting ones self.
As well as learning in class we offer separate seminars available through the club or that can be arranged at a convenient time and location. These seminars are ideal for women, children or any group that would like to learn key self defense skills, concepts and techniques.
